The countdown for the festival of lights – Diwali, has begun. But before the festivities kickstart in full swing, there are a lot of chores to complete, the biggest being the house clean-up.
Spiritual Significance Cleaning the house has always had spiritual importance. Preeti Nathwani, a housewife, informed, "According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Laxmi only chooses to enter a clean house.

As we worship the Goddess during Diwali, it is necessary to keep the house spic-n-span for her arrival. Many people even opt for a fresh paint for the walls and the furniture polished."
Cabinets and wardrobes need a hand
Cleaning the entire house requires a lot of energy and the first question that one can come up with is ‘Where to start?’ A lot of unwanted junk is dumped in the attics and loft and it is the first thing to be cleaned before Diwali. While the broken things that can be replaced are thrown out or repaired and donated to the needy, many people also donate old clothes and other such things found during cleaning sprees. After that comes the main task of cleaning wardrobes to make space for all the new clothes bought for Diwali. "It is easy to clean small furniture and other things as it hardly takes a couple of hours. But the most difficult task is to clean your wardrobe. Usually it becomes difficult for most of us to throw the old clothes as we are attached to them," said Riya Agarwal, another housewife, adding, "We usually bother about the bed and other storage compartments until Diwali cleaning starts. All the blankets, bed covers and unused winterwear are stored over there. These need to be cleaned at least once a year and for most of us that time is before Diwali." For those wanting to clean the entire house, kitchen is the worst place to clean. There are many cabinets, slabs, small boxes, gas stove, exhaust fan and extra utensils that need to be cleaned; a task that takes lot of time and effort as well.
Hiring professional help
If you don’t want to go ahead with the cleaning process all by yourself, you could also hire professional house cleaners who are more than ready to do the cleaning for you. "For working women like me, it is not possible to clean the entire house on my own due to the hectic work schedule. In such cases hiring help in the form of professional house cleaners is the best solution. Not only are they well-versed with the cleaning hacks which makes them efficient, they are also quick so you end up saving a lot of time on the cleaning," said Sujata Telang, a working woman. Abuzar Hamid, who owns a house cleaners agency, said, "These days people get very few holidays compared to what they used to get a decade ago. And it’s obvious that they don’t want to waste these holidays cleaning their homes. So they hire professional cleaners from various agencies in the city. These cleaners come along with all the equipment like vacuum cleaners, various brushes and liquid solutions, dry and wet mops etc. Being professionals, they deliver the best results and make your home look new."
